Lent 2018

Lent is the 40 days before Easter, not including Sundays. It is a time set a part to give consideration to the 40 days Jesus spent fasting and being tested by satan in the desert before He began his ministry. Even Jesus set Himself apart for a time on several occasions to call on and be strengthen by God as an example to us that in our busy lives. We need focused time with God to live in this lost and broken world.

Second Chances

For I now the plans I have  for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future

Jeremiah 2:11

We’ve all been there, or will be, at some point in our lives.  A feeling of being overwhelmed by the unfairness of life, A sense that nothing is going as planned, feeling so out of control of the bad turn of events that has happened, An illness, a lost job, the end of a relationship, a betrayal by a trusted friend or colleague, the bad news, and social injustice we see every day on the news. The list goes on and on.  There is no doubt that we live in a world that you don’t have to look much farther than your back yard to find the strongholds that satan tries to use to smother our faith and hope.  But no matter how bleak things may seem, there are still miracles all around you.  A friend who calls or texts at the right time, a hug from a caring church family member or coworker, a smile and cheerful voice to soften your daily walk, words of encouragement from the scriptures to give you strength and wisdom.  Miracles are not just the instant healings, reconciled relationships, and deliverance from a brush with death.  God works in many ways, often in the background and by preparing you for what is ahead.

I have found miracles in Bible studies that have prepared me for the storm I faced ahead, scripture that encouraged me to push through, and there is truly only one set of footprints in the sand when God carries me through what I could not go through alone.

Sometimes a blessing comes from the hardest places in life.  But hold on to the hope in the future God has planned; a second chance, a life that prospers with an abundance of peace, grace and love!
