Lent 2018

Lent is the 40 days before Easter, not including Sundays. It is a time set a part to give consideration to the 40 days Jesus spent fasting and being tested by satan in the desert before He began his ministry. Even Jesus set Himself apart for a time on several occasions to call on and be strengthen by God as an example to us that in our busy lives. We need focused time with God to live in this lost and broken world.

My story began when I was just a boy attending Central Baptist Church with my grandparents, the Box’s.  Back then we could talk about God in our schools and I soon learned that sometimes I needed to pray to God about things, especially when I thought I was in trouble.  Then in the late sixties I started attending Pleasant Hill and there I met the love of my life, Laura, and we were married January 22, 1970.  Soon, after listening to our pastor Douglas Wells and attending an old fashion tent meeting, I gave my life to Christ.  On September 3, 1972 I was baptized.  On that day I was saved not by baptism, but by the power of God through the life of Jesus and His blood that washes away my sin.  I was born again.  Today, I am a new creature in Christ and I know that “He restores my soul and leads me in the path of righteousness for His name sake.  Psalm 23:3.  Our main purpose in life is to bring honor and glory to God, just as the main purpose of Jesus was to die for our sin so we could be reconciled to the Father and have eternal life.  “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his own soul,” Matthew 26:16
